HaHa

This is an excerpt from the league where we played soccer this summer.

Is BSSC a singles club?
No, but it’s a great way to meet people! Although the majority of our members are single, BSSC is a lot more than a singles club... With all the opportunities to meet people, many friendships and marriages have “happened”.

But seriously, who gets married...

Another Update

Searching the Internet, I've been able to find more and more references about how playing sports can positively effect social relationships. Here is an interiew with two football coaches, both working in Massachusetts. Here are a few of the things that they had to say.

"I also think we need to realize that athletics is not a means to an end. It is about the experience and the friendships."

"I also think you gain more social relationships/friendships in the athletic arena than you do in other areas of school life."

Patsies Respect

I read this article this morning over Strawberry Cheerios in the Globe. I thought it showed how even older athletes garner respect for each other through sport.

"I think the first and most obvious choice is evident when you look at Jerod,’’ said Bruschi. “He’s in the middle of the defense. He’s sort of establishing himself as a leader on the defense because it is his second year now and he’s made that progression into really being a good player. He’s one that is absolutely ready for that. Defensively, I think a lot of guys are ready here. I’m really fired up about a lot of things that Jerod is going to do.’’

Mayo has soaked up all he can from Bruschi, attaching himself to the veteran’s hip from the moment he arrived in Foxborough. Mayo has spoken often of his admiration for Bruschi and the feeling is mutual."

Saw this article. Kinda captivated what I was thinking.

"Making new friends is not always easy. It can be difficult to get out of your comfort zone and meet new people. However, one great way to make new friends without any of the discomfort is to join a sports team. Team sports is a great way to get to know new people and not have any of the awkward introductions, etc."

Getting Started

I still need to get started with my blog. Yesterday, I had a thought that totally captivated the point I was trying to get across. I think that sports develop serious, long lasting trusts and relationships. Yesterday, I went to a concert with friends. We had 10 people in our rented van. 5 of us have played for the same soccer team. I can't think of no separate milieu where I have so many long lasting friendships than from sports.
